The APPG on Migration held an event today in partnership with Luke Tryl, UK Director of More in Common on ‘How to Talk to Constituents About Immigration’
The event aimed to explore effective and constructive approaches to discussing immigration with members of the public. This was raised as a key priority by members at our inaugural meeting where parliamentarians highlighted the challenge of shaping constructive conversations around migration that resonate with the public.
The event explored effective messaging strategies on a range of immigration policy areas with a focus on framing immigration discussions around the principles of control, compassion, and contribution.
Luke Tryl shared insights into public attitudes on migration and asylum, setting out their data on which segments of the population are most concerned about these issues, how these concerns influence voting behaviour, and how attitudes vary across different groups
Following the presentation, a discussion was held among parliamentarians and staffers in attendance, who shared reflections and insights from their own constituency work.
