The APPG on Migration held a briefing, chaired by Baroness Nosheena Mobarik on ‘Immigration and Skills Policy: Understanding the New Landscape’.
Following the publication of the Government’s Immigration White Paper—which introduced significant changes to the immigration landscape, including the establishment of the Labour Market Evidence Group (bringing together the Migration Advisory Committee, Skills England, the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Industrial Strategy Council) and a proposed extension of the qualifying period for Indefinite Leave to Remain from five to ten years—this event offered a timely opportunity to explore the potential implications of these developments.
The aim of the event was to support parliamentarians in gaining a clearer understanding of the immigration landscape from a business perspective, including how different industries and employers view the current system and their responses to the proposed changes.
The briefing included an overview of the policy landscape from Madeleine Sumption from the Migration Advisory Committee, alongside reflections from representatives from Apple, Capgemini, PWC, Jaguar Landrover and BAE Systems.
