In mid-June, the APPG on Migration hosted a private Roundtable with HMI Wendy Williams on the progress made the Home Office in implementing the recommendations in her Windrush Lessons Learned Review Progress Update published in March of this year.
Chaired by Sir Stephen Timms MP, the Roundtable saw a small but active group of APPG members in attendance.
They discussed how parliamentarians can continue to hold the Home Office to account on key recommendations such as the institution of a Migrants Commissioner, promoting diversity in the workforce and continuing to invest in learning and development to encourage cultural shifts within the department.
- APPG Migration members have resolved to request a meeting with the Home Secretary in the autumn to keep ministerial attention on these issues.
- APPG Migration officer Baroness Lister has put a written parliamentary question to Baroness Williams on the Home Office’s progress in implementing the findings of the Lessons Learned Review.
