Joint Briefing and Discussion by APPG on Refugees and APPG on Migration: Safe Routes for Refugees

On Wednesday, 30th October, the APPG on Migration, together with the APPG on Refugees, held a private briefing and discussion entitled: Safe Routes for Refugees – What Can the UK Learn from International Examples?

The event featured contributions from Andrea Flores, former Director for Border Management on the National Security Council under the Biden administration, and Marisa Wicki, Deputy Head of Multilateral Affairs at the Swiss Government’s Department for Migration. Representatives from the International Rescue Committee and the British Red Cross also joined to provide valuable insights.

The event provided parliamentarians with valuable insights into how the USA and Switzerland have developed safe routes for refugees, addressing both policy specifics and political considerations. This discussion offered an opportunity to reflect on international approaches to irregular migration and explore applicable lessons for the UK.
