On 17th April 2018, the APPG on Migration held an event to discuss how immigration is managed in the US, Canada, Australia and Switzerland. The event explored both positive and negative aspects of each country’s system. It also considered what the UK can learn from each in terms of developing its own new immigration system post-Brexit.
The event was organised in partnership with law firm Fragomens LLP, and partners from the firm’s offices in each country gave presentations. More than 40 other attendees took part, including parliamentarians and representatives from civil society, business, law and academia.
Minutes from the meeting, including a summary of the Q&A, are available here. Fragomens have also provided a detailed written briefing with further information about each country’s system, which is available for reference here.
